The new board surfs GREAT

I surfed my new 11'3 in a light on shore wind with some chest high sets coming through this afternoon. The boards surfs great. The rocker has the same total lift, nose and tail, as my Amundson, but the way my rocker "curves" is very different. My rocker does what I like in a board. I'm stoked. Now I just need some wind so I can windsurf it.

The photo shows a deck pad feature I created. A very long arch bump placed for windsurfing foot support. I wanted to stay with the strapless theme. It turns out this arch bump is awesome surfing. It falls under my front foot surfing a wave. It definitely helps with board control surfing.

My New 11'3 wind SUP Board is Done

I started sanding at 7am this morning. Finished and surfing in front of the house at 3pm. Exhausted! The rocker is performing exactly like I expected. The stability is better than the Amundson. Now I just need to test it with a sail.
The weight is a disappointment at 27 lbs with pad and big fin. These 1.5# Marko blanks are heavy. The bare 12 foot blank weighed 17.5 lbs before I shaped it. After shaping it was 8 lbs. The board has a full triple layer S top, plus 2 layers carbon under the pad, plus full length carbon tape top and bottom. I wanted it to survive windsurfing a northeaster. For Jacky's board I'll have to drop a layer of S glass to get the weight down. I may end up shaping 3 boards and keeping the 2 lightest ones and selling the other one. BTW, I'm still working on ideas for dealing with the ragged edges of the carbon tape on the next one. I've seen some big name brands leave the ragged edges. There has to be a better way to use this tape.

Ian Smith's new 7'8 below. Dave Cavanaugh also picked up his 7'8 today (no photo). So many 7'8s now it's hard to keep track of them all. I think, the Greenroom is somewhere north of 10 7'8s built now.

Erik's 7'8 from Holland is Done

Amazing job for his first board build. This is the board shaped in his house! Remember those amazing photos of Erik's room all sheeted up in plastic I posted earlier!
Hi Dwight, First of all, thanks by making this possible. Putting those drawings on the web was the coolest thing to do. It made me venture into the world of lines and shaping once again. In a modern way. With the best result yet. Thanks for the tips and  the advice,  that really helped a lot.  I finished the board just yesterday evening by cutting up a deckpad, half of it anyway,  and sticking my "bag-o-pads" traction on the deck. Turned out pretty cool I think. It should give killer traction.  I got the fins from Australia, they were sold out all over Europe. They were pretty quick though, like 5 workdays. Pete Casica contacted me on Swaylock's and I bought five plugs from him. Really nice and helpful, great. The final sand was hard as ever and on some spots I hit the glass slightly, especially the rails. But I don't want to put more epoxy on and sand again... Maybe I will anyway. I had a custom bag made by a Dutch guy (Patrick at supsurfing.nl) and it came out great for 150 euros. Nice bag. It has been a great journey so far with magical moments and hard work the like. I'm still learning. Here's a couple of pics, hope you enjoy them as much as I was taking them . I can't wait for some swell to arrive so I can surf it! Mahalo Erik

More Time Travel

Today from Taughannock Falls State Park on Cayuga Lake. Soooo Fun!

We entered a Time Machine Today

We returned to the birthplace of windsurfing for us. Myers Point on Cayuga Lake near Ithaca NY. Back in 1980 this beach would have been lined with 20 Windsurfer One Designs. It was amazing to see a mint condition Wayler windsurfer on the water from that era.
