Lake downwinding better than ocean?

We did a downwinder on Cayuga Lake today. Wind was 5-15 mph. Glides were easy and easy to keep going. Easier to glide and keep the glide going, than when in the ocean, I think. Even with wind only about 5 mph, gliding was easy. I think the lack of ground swell running under you, like it does in the ocean, makes it easier to keep the glide going. Ground swell can sometimes being a nuisance, knocking you off a glide. I'd love to downwind on a lake in 25-30. It must be sick.

Pit Stop While on Vacation

At a rest stop in Pennsylvania, we watched this Amish woman tubing in a dress down the Susquehanna River. These photos were taken with my iPhone 4. All but the top photo was cropped using iPhoto. Amazing camera in this phone.

Windsurfing Magazine asked me to write our story.

It arrived in the mailbox today. I'm headlined on the cover! Bye-Bye Kites!

Morning Photos

This is all I took from this morning. Sorry, I'm getting lazy. I'm having too much fun surfing to mess with photos. Surf was pure glass from 6-7am, and sick. This was taken at 8am

iPhone 4 Surf Report

Shot from our front porch, then I walked down to the beach and shot some more. It needs image stabilization. Maybe that will come on the iPhone 5. The screen quality is so fine, it looks 3D compared to the old one.

If you're as blind as me.....

This next bit of rambling may help you.

Jacky and I wear contact lenses.

I have a history of not wearing sunglasses as often as I should. When I do wear them, I take them off at any opportunity. I just don't see as well when light is reduced. Jacky's the same way. I wonder how many other blind folk don't see as well with sunglasses on? When I'm driving, the sunglasses get taken off every time a cloud blocks the sun. Well not anymore. Keep reading.

About 2 years ago, I won a pair of Kaenon sunglasses at a Coastal Urge race. I was very impressed with how well I could see with these sunglasses on, finally! I could even wear them on a semi cloudy day and not feel like I had to rip them off.

About a month ago, Jacky went shopping for new sunglasses and tried on some other brands. She experienced the same old crap. She couldn't see real well with them on. She decided she had to stick with Kaenon's, they are just so much clearer, especially when you don't see well.

If you know how to fish

Unfortunately I don't.......

11 SUPs out this morning

Jacky on the 9'3 and Zs Dad trying to surf my 9'5 Mana.
Weird wind this morning. Off shore strong at sunrise, making for clean longgggg rides. Then a total glass off and elusive waves. Then a shift down the beach, along with an onshore wind. All between 6 and 10am.

New Size Naish Hokua Spy Shots

5 fin boxes. Setup quad. Wide and short. Diamond tail or bat tail. Fuller nose compared to other Hokua's. It looks thin. Anyone want to guess the length? The rear fins in the quad, look set in off the rail a lot. More of a drivey setup, than squirrely loose setup.
