How we Traveled

We flew Southwest to San Diego. They charge $50 each way for SUPs. Hassle free and no damage. Near impossible to damage when the board is wrapped in a near hard case of foam, then slipped into our board bags. Here are photos of the foam case. It's split at the middle. This makes it easy to remove the board at the hotel, then repack for the trip back home. No need to rewrap or re-tape anything. Total cost of foam about $30.
I created a split hard case using sheet foam from Lowes and foam tubes from Wings

Slide this half over the board tail

Slide this half over the board nose. Then slide it into the board bag.

Nice....Great idea. Is there a board length limit on Southwest? What did you find the other airlines' policies to be?

Southwest brags they take windsurfers, so probably not much you can't ship.

US Air is $200 and Delta $250

at first glance on the top picture I almost had a heart attack... it looked like a board. take two seconds plus reading to realize what it is (alap). beautiful idea.
