Sometime in the mid 80s we started windsurfing the Basin. We spent 100+ days a year windsurfing there until 1999, when we switched to kitesurfing. It's great to be back. We had a blast today.
Basin days, that is where we all started. I remember all the slalom races and Ken Winner speed trials. You, Jacky, Ric, and Martin were always the fastest sailors!!! The basin was a happening place. Other places were calm and it seemed the thermals always kicked in.
It would probably be fun to try it again on a honking west wind, cruising at mach 1 along the jetty wall, lay down jibe in one inch ripples!
Those were fun times. Taking 10 years off to kite was the best thing we could have done. Now windsurfing is thrilling again! The boards are a lot faster and turn better than ever before. So much fun!
