Fun Surf Today

East coast surf isn't half bad. I had a fun, dropping into some big steep bombs early this morning. I never really found any steep drops in California. Maybe next trip.

How we Traveled

We flew Southwest to San Diego. They charge $50 each way for SUPs. Hassle free and no damage. Near impossible to damage when the board is wrapped in a near hard case of foam, then slipped into our board bags. Here are photos of the foam case. It's split at the middle. This makes it easy to remove the board at the hotel, then repack for the trip back home. No need to rewrap or re-tape anything. Total cost of foam about $30.
I created a split hard case using sheet foam from Lowes and foam tubes from Wings

Pipe, Swamis, and Beacons

Swamis around 3pm. Much bigger earlier today

Jacky's last wave of the day. Getting small. Between Pipe and Swamis

Beacons about 4 pm. Getting windy by then.

Fun in Encinitas Today

Today we met our old friend Brendan, a life long surfer who grew up in Southern California. His dad was a lifeguard at Swamis in the 50s, surfing redwood boards back in the day. We know Brendan from the few years he lived in North Carolina, windsurfing and kite surfing Carolina Beach. All the old wind crew know Brendan. It was great to see him again.

Road Trip Today

Large crew of kite surfers out today in horrible weather. They must be desperate for wind, compared to the spoiled NC kiters.

Cardiff Reef Today

We surfed Tourmaline this morning. It was small, and strangely crowded. So we made a run to the Wahoo Taco Shop, then drove up the coast. We discovered Cardiff Reef looking fun with only 3 people out! Tip, watch out for the $71.00 parking ticket. The ticket booth was closed. In Florida, that means free access. In California, it means you're bait for the parking police.
